Welcome to Art Class!

Hello, my name is Lynne Keffaber , I teach art in the mornings at Sharp Creek Elementary and in afternoons at Northfield (Kelly Schuler does the mornings at NHS). I teach grades 4, 5, and 6 at Sharp Creek and a variety of high school courses at Northfield. I look forward to teaching students how to create art in numerous ways, using a variety of materials, and sharing all the unformation that goes with the production of art. 

 
Courses
High School 2-D Art

We have 4 levels of high school 2-D
art. Students use a variety of materials and a wide range of styles. Students will build on what they have learned in previous art classes. They will learn art history, criticism, aesthetics and production.Typically student projects range from 2-4 weeks and they will complete 5 per semester.  

High School Ceramics

Ceramics is designed for students who have an interest in working with clay. Students will have experiences in making functional along with sculptural pieces, using a variety of techniques. They will need to  have well thought out forms and designs along with good craftsmanship. 
Students will create works of art in clay using  the processes of hand building using coils and slabs as well as wheel throwing. 
They will glaze their projects, and learn about the method used to fire their works.

Digital Design
 
Students taking Digital Design engage in sequential learning experiences encompassing art history, art criticism, aesthetics, and art production. Students will create and design works which incorporate graphic design, typography, illustration, and computer technologies. In addition, students will identify relationships between context, form, and function. This course leads to the beginning of students building a portfolio of computer generated images. Student will complete 14-16 projects per semester.
Photography

In photography students explore all aspects of traditional 35mm black and white photography, from basic composition to the technical elements of producing fine art photography. Students will study art from historical references, art criticism, and modern trends in media with subject matter and composition.
Students will have access to a film based camera for this class. Cameras can be checked out from the school after a permission slip is signed. Students may check the cameras out for 3 days at a time.
Students will have 16 assignments due a semester.
 

 

Jewelry

Students will learn simple jewelry making techniques and then build to moderately complex cold connection metalsmithing techniques. They will also learn about a variety of artist who create or design jewelry. They will critique each others work and write about the processes they use to create jewelry.

Sharp Creek Elementary

I have all students at SCE once a week and truly enjoy teaching my different techniques. I meet once a week with each class . We participate in a variety of art shows and contest thoughout the year. 

There is also an art club at SCE it meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Applications are due at the beginning of each school year to particapate in art club.

HS 3D Art

3D Art offers an outlet for students that perfer constructing projects that are more sculptural. This course is offered in 4 levels and offers various materials and concepts of design.
